Skilled Workers

There are three main categories of immigration for skilled workers in Canada:

- Federal Skilled Workers

- Provincial Nominee Programs

- Canadian Experience Class

Federal Skilled Workers

Canada employs a point system of selection factors to determine if an individual qualifies to immigrate as a skilled worker.  The point system is designed to determine if an individual is likely to become economically established in Canada. An individual must obtain a score of at least 67 points within this selection grid.

To be eligible as a skilled worker, an individual must also either have an arranged employment or a year of work experience within one of 29 eligible occupations that are in high demand in Canada.

Provincial Nominee Programs

If you are able to obtain a job offer from a Canadian employer in advance, there is a possibility that your application for permanent residence could be processed on an expedited basis under a Provincial Nominee Program.

In some cases, individuals may also be able to immigrate to Canada under a provincial nominee program without having to meet the selection criteria under the federal program.

Canadian Experience Category

If you are either:

you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Category. Applicants under this category are not assessed under the points system applicable to Federal Skilled Workers.
